Did it anyway

Though it was probably too late, the nurses thought we should go ahead and try it anyway. Eggs survive for 24 hours after ovulation, and with the sperm being placed directly into the uterus, they thought there was a chance they could get to it before it died. T and I discussed the pros and cons, and the only con was the cost, and we determined the cost would not forever alter our lives, so we just went in and did it.

Our thoughts were that with the Cl0mid, perhaps there was more than one follicle, and they all wouldn't necessarily ovulate at the same time, and there was a chance that it might not be too late.

Needless to say, I'm not particularly optimistic.

Anyway, as I said before, the next time we do this, we will plan on having two. One on the day of the LH surge, and one the day after. That way, if I miss it by a day (as I did this time), we will have already done one IUI and we can just skip the second one.

The problem was I took the OPKs in the morning. Apparently this is too early to take them. You're supposed to take them in the afternoon. I guess I didn't realize this. I don't remember being told this. As you could tell, I was worried the timing would be off. I hate it when my paranoia is proved correct. But what was I supposed to do? Take an OPK at work? I don't think so. There isn't enough privacy at many places I've worked to do that sort of thing. I suppose I could do it after work, but then I'd have to schedule the IUI same day. I guess that's not out of the question, but I was told that the day I get a positive OPK, schedule the IUI for the next day. And that's what I tried to do. And that's not what happened.

But what happened happened, and there's nothing we can do about it. It just is. Just like all this infertility stuff just is. We just have to keep moving forward.

Something is bound to happen some day, I guess.

I'm sorry it's not perfect, but you still have a chance! Try to stay positive! Just think, at least you don't have to go back to that job next week!

Ah shit man. I'm sorry! You do still have *a chance*, but... yeah, I can understand not being all that optimistic with the messed-up timing. :( Damnit.

You still have a chance.

Could you do another IUI with mroe monitoring and a trigger shot to help with the timing?

Hmm, that is what our clinic told us to do too. I thought you were supposed to take the test in the morning because you have the highest hormone level? Plus, that is what the instructions say...

It could still happen you never know.

Good luck this cycle!! I think you still have a chance too!

My only suggestion... ask your clinic about doing a trigger shot. Then, one well timed IUI is all you'll need, plus it will take out the guesswork. OPKs were never very reliable for me and temping while on any fertility drugs can be misleading. I've heard they can alter your temps a bit.

Nothing's ever easy, is it? I hope things will still work out for this cycle.

I will tell you that I only time I ever did OPKs, my RE had me doing them twice a day (it was with timed, not IUI, and I never ovulated, so maybe not the best example). A trigger shot does take some of the guess work out of it.

i'm glad you went ahead. low expectations are certainly understandable but crazier things have happened!

i'm with Reality. seems like daily monitoring in the week or so before you expect a surge would take a ton of pressure off.

Oh crap! I hope that it still worked even though the timing wasn't perfect.

I am still hoping that you timed it JUST right...you just never know!

I really hope there isn't a next time, but if there is I would ask for a trigger. I was so worried I would miss the window too. It started to look like I might get the surge on a Saturday and since my clinic doesn't do IUI's on Sundays they had me do the trigger on Friday and 1 IUI on Saturday. You never know though, this all may work out fine in the end!

I was told to take my OPK in the morning too. I agree with the trigger shot, it would help with timing. It is the cycles when you don't think the timing is good that you end up with the BFP. Fingers crossed for you!

i'm glad you went ahead and did it, as i think you still have a good chance. i hope this is the last time you have to deal with this.

I used OPKs for almost 2 years before I got clued into the whole don't-use-first-morning-urine thing. Apparently we don't start to synthesize LH until after we've been awake for a few hours. "They" say to test between 10am - 8pm. Once I started testing at lunchtime, I realized I was actually ovulating almost 2 days earlier than I thought. Duh! (Not like it mattered, but that's when I still thought having sex with DH actually made babies.)

I'm sorry this cycle's timing was so messed up, but I agree with everyone else that you DO have a chance. I'll send lots of prayers your way.

I've had the same frustrations with OPKs!!!! My clinic also has a protocol of P-ing-OAS in the morning, but that's only because it's more convenient for THEM based on their lab schedules. Drives me nuts.

Hitting the IUI window stresses me out to no end - we still have yet to complete one.

Anyway, here are high hopes for you! "you never know..." (which is the tough part, right?)

And yes, as far as I've been able to figure out after intensive web searching is that 10:00 a.m. until evening is better POAS time. Unless you get up at 11:00. :-)

My temp was up the morning of my IUI. I still don't know if I just woke up warm, or if I truly ovulated a little earlier than expected, but I was very nervous about the timing. You just never know what might work, especially with IUI, which really accelerates the timeframe of getting the swimmers where they need to be.

As always, I've got everything crossed for you.
