Henry's book

I want to write a book just for Henry with his birth story in it. I took pictures while in FL so I can put a book together for him. I decided to use $hutter.fly to make it because we can get a hard copy and order multiple copies so we can give one to CC and O. We thought they might like one.

I've uploaded the pictures and started the layout, but I'm finding it difficult to write. I need to make it simple so that a little kid can understand, but I want it to be lasting as well. I guess I have a little while, but it's more difficult than I thought it would be to make.

Things are going pretty well. Henry is healing up quickly and nicely. Tomorrow is T's first day back at work and me home alone with Henry, so I'm a little nervous. I'm sure things will be okay, but it's nice to know someone is there for backup if you need it. Luckily T works less than 10 minutes away, so if there is an actual emergency he can be home asap.

I'm starting to again think about work and what I want to do. I guess I can't decide without having been home all by myself yet, but I'd love input from other moms about when they did re work. Keep in mind that I don't have a real 'career' just a job. I could take it or leave it and I'm 100% sure I'm not going to work full time. I guess I want to know the pros and cons of working part time vs. not working at all.

All I gotta say is 12 weeks to be home with a baby is certainly not very long. 24-30 weeks seems a lot more realistic. 12 weeks is nothing.

I think B-dog peed on the rug in the living room, which is totally out of character for him. It smells like pee and I don't know how to fix it. T claims he can't smell it at all, but I certainly do.

My friend Jess is in from Wales and is going to meet Henry for the first time. I have to go pick her up at the station.

A book!!!! What a great idea for Henry....and his family as well.He is absolutely beautiful!Congratulations!

Just an opinion from a fifty something Grandma.....if you think you may want to work part time but are'nt really sure you give give it a go.... but if you decide you'd rather be a stay at home mommy then good-bye job!job!......blessings

I think the book sounds great!

I am sure B-dog is feeling the adjustment with Henry being home. I am sure the peeing was a reaction to it all.

Your book is such a good idea.

I'm a stay at home mom to one, and she's heading into first grade, so I've been at it almost 6 years. Many people are surprised I stay home having only one child, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am there for her 100% of the time, and even when she started school it was great that I was available to help out in class.

We are not by any means well off, but the material sacrifices have been well worth it to me.

Nature's Miracle is the best for getting out pet stains and smells. You spray it on and let it dry. You can also put it in the washing machine with soiled clothes if need be. good luck!

I really really realy debated about staying home. I actually asked to work 1 or 2 days a week and they said no. They offered me 3 days a week. Ultimately I decided not to because I had an hour commute and I didn't think the money was worth it because it just paid for the "extras" in our life. Especially since I too had a job not a career, granted a job that I had had for 9 years w/a nice salary, but it was just a job (actually I'm still on leave until the 9th). Anyway, I joined the MOMS group in my area and I've been doing new moms support groups and mommy/baby yoga so I could meet people. I found that just walking to the local toddler park with the baby in the stroller was a great way to meet people. I'm gradually getting used to it. My husband and I did have a discussion about how to handle finances so I wouldn't feel like I was asking for an allowance. I'm glad I made the decision to stay home. I'm pretty sure Lovey Girl is going to be our only child and I didn't want to miss a single thing. I was the one who was there when she rolled over for the first time instead of a daycare worker I knew I had made the right choice. Good luck with your decision!

When my first daughter was born, I went back to work after 8 weeks (only because I had a c-section, otherwise it would have only been 6 weeks!). I worked 2 days a week. It was great. You still get a little "you" time and you still get a lot of days with baby. I continued this schedule when my second daughter was born and went back after another 8 weeks. But, it was harder. To transport so much stuff and to be so tired after my long work days and it became a bother. But, it was ok and I did that for a year and a half. Then, I decided to be a full time stay at home mom once my oldest went to Kindergarden because I wanted to be there for her when she got on the bus and off and to be able to help out in the classroom. It has been wonderful. And I really enjoy my days with my little one while my oldest is in school. It's really just what works for you. You'll find the balance. If you try staying home for a few months and you like it, keep it up! If you feel like you need some time away and some time to yourself, then find a part time job and you'll have the best of both worlds.

By the way, the book is such a great idea and Henry will treasure it as will his birth family....as will you and T.

Give it some time with both the book and deciding about work. Save the things you want to put in his book, the words will come later. Right now you're probably tired and a little overwhelmed with everything. As for work, see how you feel as the 12 week mark approaches - you'll have a better sense at that point what might work best for you. It's really too early right now to decide about anything.

I also want to make a book like this. Our son is 11 months old now and all I've made is an outline for it, but I do agree it's a great idea. I'm glad the circumcision went well. We had to have our son's done about a week later at our pedi's office because the hospital wouldn't do it since it was an adoption. That first diaper change was traumatic for me, but it did heal really quickly!

I've heard of lots of APs doing books like these and I think it's such a great idea. Something I want to do!

One idea I had is to take the book "Tell Me Again About The Night I Was Born" (I think that's the title...Jamie Lee Curtis wrote it) and use it as an outline. It's obviously worded for small kids to understand, but there are many facts in the book that don't apply to my daugher's particular situation. So I've thought about using a lot of the phrases and words and just changing them a bit. Is that plagiarism tho?

Hmm.

I LOVE the book idea!

I have an idea for you... I've seen people put envelopes/pockets behind pictures to store journaling when they didn't have enough room or were going for a modern style.

Maybe you could include some pockets every few pages and add the "grown up" version of the story, some of your posts maybe, for when he is older and can get more out meat of it.

Hope all is going very, very well for you 3.
